Social Impact

Venturing Out CIC is not for profit and all surplus profits go towards enabling access to adventurous outdoor activities for people who struggle to access them. This may be for reasons such as disability or poverty.

When you purchase from Venturing Out CIC, you are not only buying an amazing outdoor experience, you are also enabling us to fulfil our social purpose of widening access to adventurous outdoor activity. We like to call this “Purchasing with a Conscience” – you get and you give at the same time. What’s not to love about that?

Here at Venturing Out, we believe that there should be no barriers to accessing adventurous outdoor activities. Everyone has the right to feel the benefits of outdoor activity – the feeling of fresh air, the joy of being on the water, the achievement of lighting a fire, the chance to challenge themselves and achieve new things.

The positive impacts of being active in the outdoors on mental health, wellbeing, resilience, self esteem and confidence are all well documented and we aim to enable many people to access these positive experience and emotions with an aim to improve life chances and reduce inequalities of access.

ASN Adventurous Activities Provision

Our ASN Adventurous Activities Provision delivers regular sessions of outdoor activities to East Lothian children who are unable to access mainstream activities due to the impact of their Additional Support Need.

These sessions offer the opportunity for the whole family to experience activities such as water activities, archery, orienteering, bushcraft and tree climbing in a safe and supported environment. Often these families never imagined that they would be able to participate in these kinds of activities which, can be perceived as being risky and inaccessible. Through these activities, we see a positive impact on the self esteem, resilience and confidence of not only the child with additional support needs, but of the whole family.

We work in partnership with East Lothian Council’s Outdoor Learning Service, a partnership that has successfully existed for several years. This partnership is vital to the delivery of the ASN Provision both in terms of sharing of equipment and our shared Volunteer Outdoor Learning Team (VOLT), that supports the work of each organisation.

This programme is part-funded by East Lothian Council.

“Our family generally finds it very difficult to take part in activities all together - usually it is one parent sitting with our ASN child while the other takes his siblings on an activity.  To get all of us out on the water in the same boat was a marvellous opportunity to feel really free and not worry about who was left on the bank! Thank you”
